Lord, show me areas in my life where I know Your Word but fail to put it into practice. Be a rock-solid, committed and action-oriented follower of Christ As you come to him, the living Stone-rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him- you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house. Could it be that we’re just soaking up new truths without applying them? Then we’re surprised when we experience consequences of disobedience or our faith falters. Worship, fellowship with believers, and ask him to stretch you in your spiritual growth. I think that’s the point of this parable. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not pu. Our thoughts would be built on Biblical truths Building our thoughts on the promises of. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. So how do we know if we are building on the rock or the sand. Then I answered, “Well, they would have if they had read the Bible.” 24 Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. I rolled my eyes at the thought of 1982 seeming ancient. My teen piped up: “Well, they probably didn’t know they shouldn’t build houses on sand back then.” It began to erode, leaving the house partly underwater. While the structure itself could withstand the hurricanes, the island couldn’t. Today, two of the six domes sit under water. When completed in 1982, the Cape Romano dome house was the ultimate green home, valued at an estimated $1.5 million. A cistern below the domes held rain water and filtered it back into the house for showers. The dome-design provided superior protection from hurricanes. New Living Translation Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. He didnt bother to dig down to the shelf of rock below. Verse (Click for Chapter) New International Version Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. By contrast the foolish man thought he knew a shortcut. In 1980, Bob Lee set out to build his dream beach house on an island just south of Marco Island, Florida. The wise man ' built his house on rock ' (Mt 7.24)' or in the words of Luke the wise man ' dug deep and laid the foundation on rock ' (6.48). Turns out, their history doesn’t go back as far as I thought. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.Īs we approached these domes by jet ski, I thought these domes might be part of some ancient ruins. 24 Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. This one is tricky because thoughts are way harder to control than actions. Jesus never said building on the rock was going to be easy. But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. Sometimes this means separating yourself from others and sometimes it means biting your tongue.
